How to Install Skype in Ubuntu 20.04

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text woodmart_inline=”no” text_larger=”no”]Skype is one of the widely used communication apps. And Ubuntu is the best (in my opinion) Linux based desktop operating system. With Ubuntu 20.04 it gets faster and better.

How to Install Skype in Ubuntu 20.04?

In this short tutorial blog post, I will show you two ways to Install Skype in Ubuntu 20.04

I also created a short video showing you how to install skype in Ubuntu 20.04. You can watch it below:

Method 1: Using Ubuntu Software Center.

Ubuntu Software Center is provided by Ubuntu for easy installing, updating, and removing applications.

  1. Step 1: Open Ubuntu Software Center
  2. Step 2: Search for “Skype.” You will find the search icon on the top left corner.
  3. Step 3: Choose all familiar Skype from the search result. By double-clicking the result.
  4. Step 4: Hit the install button (Green) to start the installation. It will ask for your system account password.
  5. Step 5: It will take a few minutes depending on your Internet and Computer speed.
  6. Step 6: Once done, you can open Skype from your App Drawer.

In this method, the application will be installed from Snap. Microsoft itself maintains the Skype package. So you need not to worry about anything. You can update your Skype application from Ubuntu Software Center, and it is also much easier to remove it later. This is the preferred method of installing Skype on Ubuntu powered Systems.

Method 2: Downloading DEB File from Skype.com

Like I said before, Ubuntu Software Center is much better than downloading it from Skype.com. But in case you want your installer directly from Skype.com, then follow this method.

Step1: Got to https://www.skype.com/en/get-skype/

Step 2: Click on “Get Skype for Linux DEB.” This should start downloading the Skype DEB file in your system. In case you don’t find this button, you can also use this link to start download https://go.skype.com/skypeforlinux-64.deb

Step 3: Double click skypeforlinux-64.deb to begin the installation process.

Step 4: You will find details about skype software. Click on the “Install” (Green) button to begin the installation. Just like the previous method, it will ask for your system password.

Step 5: It will take a few minutes depending on your Internet and Computer speed.

Step 6: Once done, you can open Skype from your App Drawer.

I hope you find this simple tutorial helpful. I will write more such tutorials with videos on Ubuntu usage. Feel free to use the comment section if you have any questions regarding this tutorial. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
