How to Allocate More RAM to a Program? – Increase Your System’s Performance

We are assuming that you know what RAM is and so, we will not focus on tutoring you about it. What we will talk about is the allocation of RAM to different programs.

How to Allocate More RAM to a Program?

The RAM usually decides how fast your system is especially when multiple programs are run simultaneously. More RAM = better performance. Now, by default, the computer assesses the needs of a certain program and allocates RAM accordingly. However, more often than not, this is not enough. A program may be lagging because it needs more RAM. Is there anything you can do about it? Of course.

How to Dedicate More RAM to a Program in Windows 10?

There are actually quite a few ways to do this! Let’s explore some of them.

Quit Programs That You Aren’t Using

Are there are programs that you aren’t using, but are running in the background? Quit all of them. You may not notice but these take up quite some RAM.

Change Maximum Memory of Your Program

Your computer is probably not allocating more RAM to your program because the latter has default restrictions. Change those in the Preferences window. You will find this under Edit.

Increase the Virtual Memory

Find the page file or virtual memory in the hard drive. It also works as RAM, albeit a little slower. Increasing this can improve the performance of your program. Here’s how you find it:

Control Panel > System > Advanced System Settings > Settings > Performance

Delete Programs That You Don’t Use

We all have a bunch of programs that are just sitting in our system. Just delete these by going to the Task Manager. It will free up a lot of your valuable RAM.

If nothing is working for you, it is time for an upgrade! Old computers that are quite slow definitely need an upgrade. Also, if you run very heavy programs that need a lot of RAM, you should buy a new RAM chipset. They are not expensive, so it won’t hurt your pockets, but once you upgrade, you will enter a world of sheer awesomeness where speed is on your side.

Whether it is Minecraft or Adobe Photoshop or any other program that needs more RAM, the aforementioned steps should work for you. If you know of any other ways to increase RAM for a program on Windows 10, we would love to hear from you. Please feel free to comment.
