In this article, we will show you how to whiten teeth in GIMP. We will be using a teeth whitening photo editor GIMP for that.

Follow the steps below to use GMIP for teeth editor for photos.

How to Whiten Teeth in GIMP?

Step 1:

Download the picture you want to edit and open it in GIMP.

Step 2:

Select the teeth area by clicking on the Free Select Tool. Once done, draw an outline around them so that any edits you do would be performed on this selection only. Don’t choose the lips, gums, or the area between your teeth as it can apply the edits to these areas too.

Step 3:

Click on the Duplicate icon at the bottom of the Layers panel to make a copy of the layer.

This will duplicate the selected layer so that we can compare it with the original portrait and even if we do any mistake we do have a fresh image layer to rework on.

Step 4:

Click on Colors and select the Hue/Saturation option.

Step 5:

Reduce the saturation level to around -50 and increase the lightness in your image layer to 5. Remember to not do any drastic changes in the saturation and lightness level. Anything severe can make the picture look fake.

This will make your teeth whiter, but we still need to enhance them to mold them to look more realistic.

Step 6:

Update the brush selection to Feather. You can now drag the brush onto the selected area and it will brighten up the selected areas evenly with softer strokes.

The softness of the brush must be selected according to the portrait selected and the desired output. As you don’t want an unnatural picture.

Step 7:

Select the gums and the spaces between your teeth. We need to brighten these areas as well so that it matches with each tooth’s brightness. Duplicate the selected area to perform any edits to it.

Step 8:

Use the Dodge tool to brighten the selected areas. This will ensure the brightness of the portrait is alike.

Step 9:

Some areas in your image might need to be darkened so the portrait appears more realistic. You can use the Burn tool for this above process.

Step 10:

You have now successfully edited the image. Every tooth and the surrounding area in your picture look whitened and realistic.

Conclusion:
