Skype Doesn’t Ring When Someone Calls – SOLVED

With work from home becoming the need of the hour, web calling has taken the front seat. Meetings are now online.

All this seems quite straightforward and easy until the application we use starts giving us trouble. A problem we commonly hear of is that Skype doesn’t ring when someone calls. This has caused multiple people to miss important meetings. Bummer!

Not knowing if someone’s calling is very annoying and disruptive. And, if you are in this boat, you have come to the right place. Our article will help you with simple solutions so that you solve the problem right now!

Skype Doesn’t Ring When Someone Calls

One of the solutions below is very likely to help you. Keep reading to choose the best.

1. Quit The App And Sign In Again

Quitting the app is the virtual equivalent of hitting the remote to get it to work. Sometimes, due to an error or a bug, a certain feature stops working. The easiest way to fix this is to quit the app and sign in again. Do a test call and see if it is ringing now.

2. Reinstall The App

If quitting didn’t solve it, maybe deleting the Skype app and reinstalling it is the answer. If you are using Windows, you will be able to delete the app from Control Panel. The navigation route is –

Control Panel > Uninstall a program > Remove Skype

uninstal skype

Another option is to reset the app by heading over to Start and then finding Skype. After that, follow these steps:

More > App Settings > Reset

3. Install The Older Version

If you started enduring problems after updating the app, maybe the latest version is buggy. Revert to the older version and see if this solves your problem.

4. Check The Settings On Your Phone

Those who use Skype (or any other app) on the phone have the option to disable specific notifications on the device. When you use this feature, even if your Skype settings are default, you won’t get notified. Go over to your system settings or phone settings and change them to receive notifications.

The process is similar for Android and iOS phones.

5. Try Being The Administrator

Administrative permission may help you retrieve notifications. Here are the steps to follow on Windows:

  • Right-click on the Skype icon
  • Open Properties
  • You will see multiple tabs – click on Compatibility
  • Choose to Run this Program as Administrator
  • Confirm

Now, your problem should be solved.

When it was launched, Skype was ahead of its time. Today, it has multiple competitors that are overtaking it and unless it makes huge changes, it will get obsolete. Until something drastic happens, we hope the suggestions we provided will help you out.
